What is Bullying?

Bullying is defined as any severe or pervasive physical or verbal act or conduct, including communications made in writing or by means of an electronic act. Additionally, bullying encompasses one or more acts committed by a pupil or group of pupils directed toward one or more pupils that has or can be reasonably predicted to have the effect of causing a reasonable pupil to experience a substantially detrimental effect on the pupil's physical or mental health, academic performance, or ability to participate in school activities.

In the event that a school employee observes or suspects any sort of bullying taking place, the employee is required to stop it and report it to a school administrator.

Cyber or Social Media Bullying

Cyberbullying or Social Media Bullying includes the creation or transmission of harassing communications, direct threats, or other harmful texts, sounds, or images as defined in Education Code 48900. Cyberbullying also includes breaking into another person's electronic account and assuming that person's identity in order to damage that person's reputation.

Monitor your child's social media accounts: Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Tik Tok, Tumblr, Twitter.

SEE IT, STOP IT, REPORT IT.

Report It

Any person who has been a victim of, or witnessed bullying or harassment via social media, on school grounds, during school activities, or going to and coming from school, is highly encouraged to report the incident immediately to an administrator, teacher or other adult personnel on campus. Students have an option of reporting the incident anonymously through the Bullying/Harassment Complaint form located at the school.

Online Cyberbullying Training for Parents and Teachers

Watch Video

One in four teens has experienced cyberbullying, according to the latest research, and one in six teens admits to cyberbullying others. Many studies point to a strong link between bullying and suicide. Parents, teachers, and students need to recognize the dangers of bullying and learn how to help students who are most at risk.

NW3C and the Safe Surfin’ Foundation, along with support from the Leon Lowenstein Foundation, have partnered to produce a new interactive online training designed to help educators and parents constructively address this serious problem facing young people today.

“Cyberbullying: Our Children, Our Problem,” a 30- to 45-minute interactive training program, will serve as a resource for parents, teens, educators and law enforcement. This training addresses ways to cope with and respond to cyberbullying, including effective strategies for empathy, communication, conflict resolution and incident reporting.
