Rasheed Khan
 
Mr. Rasheed Khan, Executive Director
 
With over 26 years of experience in public education, Mr. Khan is a dedicated administrator committed to advancing student success and implementing impactful instructional changes. He currently serves as the Executive Director of Goethe International Charter School, where he leverages his extensive background in educational leadership to enhance instructional practices, foster collaborative work environments, and promote equity in education. Throughout his career, Mr. Khan has championed innovative programs such as eSports, restorative justice initiatives, and culturally responsive learning, alongside technology-driven solutions for both classroom and administrative efficiency. He holds a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with Honors Distinction from California State University, Northridge, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. His credentials and commitment to continuous improvement reflect his passion for cultivating positive learning environments that empower students and educators alike.

 

Principals

 

Ms. Casey Jones, Elementary Principal

Ms. Jones holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies and a California Multiple Subject teaching credential from San Diego State University as well as a Master's in Education and Administrative Services credential through the University of California, Los Angeles. After serving as both a Kindergarten teacher and grade level lead at a dual language immersion, International Baccalaureate (IB) school in San Diego, she relocated to Los Angeles and joined the Goethe International Charter School (GICS) community. Ms. Jones has served as a First Grade teacher, Instructional Coach, and Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction at GICS before becoming Principal in 2018.

Ms. Kirsten Paul, Secondary Principal

Ms. Paul holds a Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Bielefeld, Germany with a focus on non-profit organizations in developing countries. She also holds a California Multiple Subject teaching credential as well as a Master's in Educational Administration through CalStateLA. Before becoming a teacher, Ms. Paul worked as project/program coordinator at Shoah - Survivors of the Holocaust - Foundation and at the University of Southern California (USC) in the Multimedia Program. She is a co-founder of Goethe International Charter School (GICS) and has served as a Fifth Grade, Third Grade and Second Grade German homeroom teacher, an Alumni Program teacher and coordinator as well as the Assistant Principal of the  Middle School and English Language Development since 2014. Both of Ms. Paul's children attended GICS and are now attending college.

Ms. Nazmiye Akbaba, Special Populations Services Administrator

Ms. Akbaba was born and raised in Düsseldorf, Germany, where she began her career in education. In 2012, she moved to Los Angeles to complete an internship at Goethe International Charter School (GICS). She quickly developed a deep connection with the GICS community and decided to return as a Second Grade German homeroom teacher. After several years in the classroom, she transitioned into her current role as Assistant Principal, continuing to serve the school community. Ms. Akbaba holds a Masters in Education from RWTH Aachen University, a California Single Subject teaching credential in English as well as a California Multiple Subject teaching credential from California State University Los Angeles, and an Administrative Services Credential from the University of Southern California (USC).

 

Ms. Biggi

 

Ms. Biggi Schilcher, Director of Operations/Financial Manager

Ms. Schilcher was born and raised in Germany and moved to Los Angeles in 2005. She holds a Master's degree in Marketing and Human Resource Management from Fachhochschule Münster. She also holds a Master's degree in Organizational Behavior from Ludwig-Maximillians-Universität in Munich. Before coming to the United States, Ms. Schilcher worked as a management consultant for 6 years. Prior to her role as Director of Operations, she worked as a management consultant in the U.S. for companies including Porsche Motorsport and Porsche Design. At Goethe International Charter School (GICS) Ms. Schilcher had different roles before her current one, including volunteer in the area of fundraising as well as Finance Manager. Both of Ms. Schilcher's children attended GICS and are now attending college.

 

 Angel Truong

Ms. Angel Truong, International Baccalaureate Coordinator

 

The 2024-25 school year will be Ms. Truong's 24th year as an educator. Angel began her career as an early childhood educator. After earning her elementary teaching credential she then taught 4th grade in LAUSD and Lawndale before joining Goethe as a 5th grade teacher in 2010. Angel has also served concurrently as IB Coordinator since 2011. Ms. Truong's goals as a teacher and now IB Coordinator are to encourage students to develop a lifelong love of learning, to build kind, respectful relationships, and to be problem-solvers. Angel is deeply committed to the IB mission of rigorous, thoughtful, and reflective teaching and learning. She is excited to serve as Goethe's IB Coordinator full-time and to continue to support inquiry and action by working closely with teachers and students in all grade levels.Ms. Truong is a UCLA Bruin two times over! There she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Applied Developmental Psychology as well as her teaching credential and Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis on social justice. In her free time, she loves to read, cook, craft, and spend time with her family and friends.
