Lantern Festival

Walking with lanterns is a German tradition for the time around St. Martin's Day (November 11). According to legend, St. Martin was a kind soldier who gave a beggar half of his coat to protect the man from freezing to death. The Lantern Festival is an annual tradition at Goethe held on the Friday evening closest to November 11. Students and their families walk around the sports field holding colorful, often self-made lanterns, singing songs. The joy of walking with friends and the beauty of hundreds of illuminated lanterns is a magical, one-of-a-kind experience.

Cultural Assemblies

Our Cultural Assemblies take place throughout the year, each highlighting a different culture from around the world. Through music, dance, performances, and storytelling, students are introduced to diverse traditions and perspectives. These assemblies provide meaningful opportunities for students to celebrate diversity and deepen their global understanding.

Art Contest

Our annual Art Contest invites middle years programme students to showcase their creativity and artistic talent. Students may submit work in a variety of mediums, including drawing, painting, and crafts. Entries are judged, and first, second, and third place winners are recognized, making this a special opportunity for students to express themselves and be celebrated for their creativity.

Winter Market
Held alongside the Winter Concert, the Winter Market offers a charming shopping experience featuring handmade seasonal items. Families and community members can browse and purchase unique crafts and decorations, making it a perfect way to celebrate the season while supporting creativity within our school community.

International Flair & Family Dance
This annual event at the end of the school year celebrates our international diversity as a school community and as a wider community in Los Angeles. It is fun, educational and supports Goethe's International Baccalaureate principles. Each child is given a "passport" and, with open-minded curiosity, visits booths that represent a country where the student can gain knowledge about its language, geography, food and other cultural facts. Students play games, look at maps and pictures, ask questions and taste food. Students receive a stamp in their passport when they answer an age-appropriate question to communicate what they have learned. Students also publicly perform a culturally-specific group dance and invite their families to join in the fun.
