Middle School Visual Arts

In the MYP, students learn about the elements of art and the principles of design. They get to try out new materials and advanced drawing and painting techniques. By applying the "inquiry, action and reflection" cycle, students are led through planning processes and develop artwork reflecting their personal intentions and style. With a growth mindset, students experience that through perseverance and resilience anyone can learn to draw, paint, sculpt, design or create whatever they envision. In addition to learning the skills to plan and create art in a variety of media, students also learn to look at and confidently talk about artwork from around the world and from different time periods. They are encouraged to uncover the relationship between art and culture, history, identity etc. and thereby deepen their understanding of the world.
