Student Leadership
Middle School students serve in 3 distinct leadership roles:
1. Student Council
2. Student Advisory Council
3. WEB
Student Council
Student Council members serve as student leaders who represent the voice and interests of their peers within our IB learning community. Guided by the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate, they advocate for student needs and concerns, propose ideas for school-wide initiatives, and engage in collaborative decision-making that reflects shared values and collective responsibility.
They help organize and lead school activities, support assemblies and campus tours, and serve as ambassadors of our school culture. Through these authentic leadership experiences, students develop strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills while embodying the IB Learner Profile attributes of principled, communicative, and caring individuals.
By encouraging thoughtful dialogue and taking responsible, student-initiated action, Student Council members contribute meaningfully to their class and the broader school community—demonstrating agency, integrity, and a commitment to positive change.
Student Advisory Council
The Student Advisory Council consists of 6-8th grade students who are selected to serve on the council through a nomination process that reflects a diverse range of voices, perspectives, and grade levels. The council provides students with a meaningful opportunity to share their perspectives and help shape the school community. The council meets regularly with school leadership to discuss ideas, provide feedback, and collaborate on initiatives that enhance the student experience and promote a positive, inclusive school environment. Through their participation, members develop leadership, communication, and collaboration skills while contributing to decisions that impact their school community.
WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) Leaders
WEB Leaders at GICS play a vital role in fostering a supportive and inclusive IB learning community
for incoming 6th-grade students. As peer mentors, they guide new students through the transition to middle school, helping them navigate routines, build friendships, and engage confidently with the school environment.
Rooted in the IB Learner Profile, Web Leaders demonstrate caring, open-mindedness, and principled action as they model positive behaviors and encourage a sense of belonging. Through activities, mentorship, and one-on-one support, they cultivate empathy, communication, and
leadership skills while empowering their peers to take initiative and embrace the opportunities of
their new school journey.
This peer-to-peer support system reflects the IB commitment to fostering collaborative, responsible, and reflective learners who contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing and growth of the whole school community.
