The Goethe Green Team (GGT) is a parent group fueled by clean-burning volunteer energy!
The goals of the GGT are several:
1) to promote awareness for both parents and students of environmental issues such as recycling/waste reduction and conservation,
2) to build community through a variety of environmentally friendly activities, and
3) to plant the seeds of environmental stewardship for our future generations through classroom/school activities and student ambassadors.
And to have fun doing all of that!
The GGT hosts numerous activities throughout the school year: family camping trips in the fall and spring, a bike safety workshop for our school and surrounding schools in partnership with Culver City Walk and Rollers, three beach cleanups per year in partnership with Heal the Bay, Ballona Creek cleanups in partnership with Ballona Creek Renaissance, GGT movie nights, and field trips to places like the Marine Mammal Center and the Hyperion Hazardous Waste recycling facility. The real magic happens in the classroom with our Student Ambassador program, where students from each class have an opportunity to be environmental leaders in their classrooms by managing recycling, promoting trash pickup on campus and tallying points for the schoolwide zero waste lunch game.
One recent achievement of Goethe International Charter School's Green Team is the Green Ribbon School certification through the US Department of Education.
