Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Committee

Do you believe that children’s emotional development and academic progress are equally important?

Do you believe that children learn best when they feel safe and nurtured?

Do you believe in positive discipline?

If you answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, we would like to invite you to join the Social Emotional Learning Committee! Our committee consists of Goethe International Charter School (GICS) parents and staff members (including several teachers) and reports to the GICS administration. We support social and emotional learning in all areas based on the IB Learner Profile and the IB PYP Attitudes. We want to bring our charter to life in our school community. We believe that the principles of caring and respect should be apparent when looking at our entire school community and in the ways we relate to one another: parents, staff and students.

A summary of our committee’s accomplishments in previous years:

  • Collaborated with administration and staff to create the Triadic Agreements, our school’s official, award winning discipline policy.
  • Supported workshops for teachers and staff in the Triadic Agreements and Caring School Community program.
  • Organized parent workshops in positive discipline and in mindfulness.
  • Provided input regarding school procedures to support children’s social and emotional development.
