Academics at Goethe International Charter School
At our school, learning is guided by the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework, which encourages students to become curious, reflective, and globally minded learners. Our academic program is built on the principle of inclusion, ensuring that students of all abilities—including those in our special education programs—receive the tailored accommodations and individual support they need to thrive. We are designed to support students through two key pathways: the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP), each structured to meet the developmental needs of our diverse student body while maintaining a consistent focus on inquiry, creativity, and real-world connections.
In the Primary Years Programme, students experience learning through a transdisciplinary, classroom-based approach where subjects are integrated to create meaningful, inquiry-driven units of study. This foundation builds strong academic habits while fostering a love of learning. In the Middle Years Programme, students transition into a more subject-specific model, engaging with individual disciplines such as language and literature, sciences, mathematics, and the arts through specialized classes.
As part of our commitment to global citizenship, inclusion, and multilingualism, students in the Primary Years participate in German immersion, while Middle School students have the opportunity to continue their language journey by choosing either German or Spanish.
Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)
At GICS, second-grade students participate in the OLSAT-8 (Otis-Lennon School Ability Test), an assessment used as part of the gifted identification process. Students who meet district criteria may be identified as gifted for high achievement.
As an IB World School, GICS nurtures gifted learners through a rigorous, inquiry-based educational program that promotes critical thinking, creativity, conceptual understanding, and real-world problem-solving. Teachers differentiate instruction to meet students' individual strengths and needs, providing opportunities for enrichment, deeper inquiry, leadership, collaboration, and higher-level thinking within the classroom. Through the IB framework, students are encouraged to explore their interests, challenge themselves academically, and develop as lifelong learners.
